Lausanne (Switzerland), 07.31.2017: Genohm has just released the latest 6.0 version of SLIMS, its Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) + Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) platform.
SLIMS just got better ! Today, we have released the new 6.0 version of SLIMS. The Tutorial that we prepared for our customers shows the highlights of the new SLIMS release. We would like to introduce here several new and exciting features to improve both the look and feel of our software.
First, the graphical improvements include our new SLIMS logo, the lighter outlook of the LogIn page and a clearer overall design that adds a streamlined menu grouping all SLIMS modules together. Additional enhancements to the overall user experience include the ability to switch layouts with a single click.
Beside the fresh look, we have a new set of features and improvements designed to make life in the lab easier. Just click on the icons of front page of the Tutorial and you will be automatically redirected to the page with the selected topic.
Don’t you hate it when you go to the freezer only to find that someone has used the last drops of the the last vial of the Taq polymerase? Or when you are planning to perform a sequencing run and you realize there are no more paired end cluster kits left? We do also hate when that happens.
This is exactly why we have now introduced the ability to track reagent inventories, both type and quantity, so you will never run out again! To ensure that you, or your lab manager are notified of low inventory we have also introduced the ability to generate an email directly from the system! Using our API scripting ability, SLIMSGate, users can now choose from one of four different notification levels possible: Info-Warn-Success-Error.
Are you looking for more flexibility in your workflows? The Workflow module also got its share of new features with a new advanced ability to search for all of the contents of an order in any workflow. You can search by any barcode and it will show you where all of the samples tied to that barcode can be found, even if they are spread across multiple steps. Additionally, we added simplified protocols to ease the burden of building out complex workflows. Combined with the ability to mix samples at any step, even the most complex protocols can now be made simpler in the SLIMS platform.
Lastly, many of our customers use the SLIMS platform to track huge numbers of samples. A new feature in our Studies module allows users to store them in any location with an infinite number of positions so they will never run out of space. They can make sharing more flexible by taking advantage of our new custom permissions for study groups granting/restricting access to specific content events and case report forms.
Beside the Tutorial, we have produced a short video describing all the improvements introduced with the new SLIMS 6.0:
